The Miracle Plant…Aloe Vera. 20 reasons why you need it NOW!

This Spiky, Green Miracle Plant has so many known healing benefits.  Luckily for me, living in Central America, these miracle plants (Also known as the plant of immortality) can be found everywhere and I take full advantage!  I highly suggest you plant one, find one or buy one as a small leaf will go a long way!  Simply break off a leaf to reveal the healing gel inside the plant. Aloe Vera is best used in it’s most natural form, directly from the plant. However the bottles at the drug store work great too, just make sure there’s no alcohol in the ingredients.  Tip: Keep cut leaf in the refrigerator when not in use.  It will keep for much longer.

Let’s jump right in to some of the many benefits that Aloe Vera can do for you!

1.) Acne – After washing your face, apply aloe vera gel directly on your face and let dry naturally.  Say goodbye to acne and hello to beautiful skin!

2.) Anti-Aging  – You heard that right! Aloe Vera has been known to reduce the signs of aging! Apply on a regular basis.

3.) Scars / Stretch Marks – Simply mix together 1 cup coconut oil, 2 tablespoons honey, 2 cups of sea salt and 1 cup of Aloe and apply.

4.) Bug Bites / Itching – Place cool Aloe directly on itchy spots or bug bites.  Immediate Relief!

5.) Skin Rashes – Apply Aloe Vera on your rash unto 3 times a day for soothing effects.

6.) Dark Spots / Skin Pigmentation – Applied daily will help reduce the look for dark spots

7.) Burns – Mix Aloe with Vitamin E oil and apply to burn daily until healed.  The cooling effects will feel so good!

8.) Shaving Gel – Use like you normally would like shaving cream. Use as After-Shave for men too, works amazing!

9.) Hair Care – Use as conditioner for super shiny, silky hair. Or massage into the scalp and leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse for speedy hair growth.

10.) Drink it!  Adding it to water will help in lowering blood-sugar levels, indigestion, heartburn, bloating, ulcers, urinary tract infections and cholesterol.

11.) Toothpaste – Yup! Brush your teeth with Aloe Vera!  It will help strengthen your gums, giving you strong, healthy teeth!

12.) Bruises – Apply to bruises twice a day and they will disappear much faster!

13.) Eye Make-up Remover – Apply with a cotton pad, rinse off.

14.) Rosacea – Apply daily to fade rosacea.

15.) Asthma – Boil leaves in a pan of water, put towel over head and breathe in vapours.

16.) Sunburn – Apply directly on sunburn and let dry.  Apply up to 3 times daily.

17.) Moisturizer – That’s right!  Replace your moisturizer with Aloe Vera!  It feels good and is fast-absorbing!

18.) Razor Burn – Apply directly to the skin before bed and first thing in the morning. Let dry.

Why you NEED Tea Tree Oil in your home!

If you haven’t had the pleasure of using Tea Tree Oil as of yet, you’re missing out!  Run out right now and buy yourself some!  This miracle oil is reasonably priced and is good for everything from acne, to air freshener, to sore throats, to beautiful hair and more!

Tea Tree Oil comes from the leaves of the indigenous Malaleuca Tree located in Australia and has been used for years!  Check out some of the uses here:

Muscle Aches: Fill a bath with hot water. Add 15 drops of Tea Tree Oil and 1/2 cup of Epsom Salt. Soak.

Rashes: Mix equal parts with Coconut Oil. Massage over rash.

Air Freshener: Soak a cotton ball or cotton pad with tea tree oil and place it in a room to remove any unwanted odor. (Works well in the bathroom)

Asthma or Bronchitis:  Fill a small pot with some water and place on the stove until hot and steamy. Remove from stove and add a 5-7 drops of Tea Tree Oil.  Put a towel over your head and breathe in the steam for several minutes or until water is cool.  This will help open your airways.  For Bronchitis, you can also massage the oil into your chest.

Cold Sores: Apply 1-2 drops on a cotton swab. Apply up to 3 times a day.

Mosquito or Flea Bites: Apply oil directly on your bite.

Sore Throat: Take 1 cup of warm water and add 2 drops of Tea Tree Oil with a sprinkle of salt. Mix.  Gargle 3-4 times a day, but do not swallow!

Minor Cuts and Scrapes: Add a few drops of oil right to the cut or scrape. Or put a few drops on a cotton ball and place on wound. Cover with a bandaid if needed.

Chapped Lips: Add 1-2 drops to your lip balm or vaseline. Use as needed.

Scalp Treatment: Add a few drops to your shampoo.  It will rid your hair of any buildup and leave your hair and scalp feeling squeaky clean!

Razor Burn or Ingrown Hairs: Add 1-2 drops of oil directly to your ingrown hair. Repeat every couple hours until infection is gone.

Ticks: Drop some Tea Tree Oil directly to the tick, he should release from your skin.

Acne: Add about 20 or so drops to your regular face cleanser. Or do what I do and put a drop directly on your zit!

Vaginal or Bladder Infection: Sit in a shallow tub of warm water. Add several drops of Tea Tree Oil and soak for several minutes.

Mold and Mildew Remover: Pour 2 cups of water and 2 teaspoons of Tea Tree Oil into a spray bottle. Shake Well. Spray on mold or mildew and wipe clean. Do not rinse off.

Dry Skin: Add 4 drops Tea Tree Oil to 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil and massage into skin.

Nail Fungus: Add 1-2 drops directly on your nail. Massage until all soaked in. Repeat for 1 week morning and night.

***Hint*** Try Tea Tree Oil in a small spot alone first. If you find it too strong, mix it with a carrier oil like Olive Oil, Coconut Oil or Almond Oil.

If you know of any other really good uses for Tea Tree Oil please share!

Natural Ways to Sleep Better…no more insomnia!

We ALL need restful sleep, but unfortunately many of us don’t get the pleasure.  I used to be an insomniac and I know quite a few friends that are as well.  Here are a few tips that I have learned that will help you get a peaceful nights rest every night.

1.) Turn off the TV! Better yet, get rid of the TV that’s in your bedroom!  I am a night-thinker, so every night (for years) I would watch TV, wear an eye mask to block the light and put the TV on a sleep timer to automatically shut-off.  BAD!!!  Watching TV does not turn your brain off.  If you’ve been lying in bed for 30 minutes and you’re still awake, try leaving the room and reading a book until you get sleepy.  *If you have any other electronic devices, turn them off or turn them around so you don’t see the lights.

2.) Your bedroom is your sanctuary. If you keep your bedroom organized, clutter-free and tranquil you will feel more relaxed. Try this:

– Make your room dark.  Put in some black-out drapes or try wearing an eye mask.

– Make your bed.  Crawling into a bed when the sheets are twisted into a ball is NOT comfortable.

– Wear cozy pajamas or do what I do and sleep naked. 🙂

– Invest in a comfortable pillow that will support your neck and head.  You want your neck straight, not tilted up.  Make sure your pillow isn’t too squishy where your head is practically on the mattress.

– Keep your room cool.  You will sleep better!

– Purchase breathable sheets. This will reduce sweat, skin irritation and body odor, making you sleep better.

– Make sure your room is quiet.

– Buy a good mattress.  Memory-foam is said to be the best as it conforms to your body. You spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, it’s worth the money!

3.) Don’t eat before bed or while in bed. I usually wait at least 2 hours.  Also, the biggest meal in my day is breakfast and lunch.  I keep dinner light.  This keeps my metabolism and digestion running at high speed all day and slows down at night letting my body relax and rest.

4.) Trying taking a Melatonin supplement 1-2 hours before bedtime. Melatonin is a natural hormone that our bodies create. It will help make you drowsy, help slow your metabolism and will lower your body temperature preparing it for sleep.

5.) Exercise – But workout early! Most people know that exercise promotes restful sleeping, however if you exercise to close to bedtime it can actually keep you awake.  Exercising increases your body temperature.  If your internal body temperature is too hot, good luck trying to get any sleep.  Did you know it could take up to 6 hours for your body to cool down after a workout?  It’s true! Cooler bodies always sleep better!

6.) Lavender. Many people know that lavender is useful when it comes to sleeping…but most don’t know how to use it.  Try taking a warm bath and adding Lavender Oil to it. It will help relax the body and the smell will relax the mind.  If you’re not the kind of person that likes baths…buy a lavender spray and lightly (and about 12 inches away) spray your pillow.

If you know of any other really good sleep remedies, please feel free to comment!  I’m sure everyone would like to know!

Or you can do what I do…sleep with my lover every night and have the best sleep ever!  If you’ve tried all my recommendations and still can’t sleep…maybe I’ll let you borrow him! 😉

Happy Sleeping!
